In his high school times, he was very much fond of acting but was feeling embarrassed to open his dream about becoming an actor to his family. At university, instead of choosing business and commerce he opted for fine arts and after graduation, he moved to New York to try himself in such genre as standup comedy. His stage debut took place in the mid-1990s in New York theaters, and about the same time he started receiving his first cinema roles, in the movies like Scream 2, A Life Less Ordinary, 1999, No Vacancy, Go, and others. In the early 2000s Timothy joined plenty of projects with famous actors like A Man Apart (with Vin Diesel), Catch and Release (with Jennifer Garner), Die Hard (with Bruce Willis), Hitman, Meet Bill, A Perfect Gateway (with Milla Jovovich), High Life, I am Number Four, Mother's Day (with Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts), Snowden, and others. On TV, Olyphant appeared with the role of sheriff in series Deadwood, Justified, The Office, The Grinder, and others.
