Nelson Mandela was the leader of the South African nation, one of the most prominent fighters for Black people's rights, and undoubtedly one of the most successful national leaders in the whole world's history. He came to this world in 1918, in a small town of Mvezo in one of the neighborhoods of Cape Town, and grew up in Thembu culture surrounding. Nelson graduated from 2 universities and started practicing as a lawyer in Johanesburg in the late 1940s. During those years he started getting involved in various social and patriotic movements which were focused on the issues of racial segregation and independence of the country. During the 1950s he was elected leader of a few Black people's movements, but despite great public support, he was arrested a few times for taking part in a number of protests and disobedience activities. In total, he spent over two dozens of years in prison, until he was finally released in the 1990s.
Upon his release, his reputation and public support were really very high, and in 1994 he was elected President of South Africa, becoming the first black man to take that position. Apart of spending a lot of efforts to fix the segregation problem, Mandela's government managed to fix a number of economic problems and strengthen the country's economy, improving the life quality of South African people. He left his Presidential cabinet in 1999 and began dealing with the organizations related to such important social problems as HIV and poverty. Despite all the controversies surrounding his personality, Nelson Mandela became one of the important national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi or Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who had enormous influence on the national development of the whole country.
