Marie Curie, or Madame Curie, is one of the most significant female scientists of all times, who contributed greatly to the development of chemistry and physics. She was born in 1864 in Warsaw as Maria Salomea Skłodowska to the family of teachers, and her father was a school principal. Maria was always very talented at precise sciences, and with the purpose of continuing studies, she moved to Paris in the late 1880s. She became a student at the University of Paris and started tutoring, as well as doing plenty of important research. In particular, she discovered two new elements, radium and polonium, naming the latter after her beloved country. In 1895 Marie married her colleague, Pierre Curie, who studied radioactivity, magnetism, piezoelectricity, etc. In 1903, Pierre, Marie, and their fellow researcher Henri Becquerel received a Noble Prize for their important research findings in physics. In 1911, Marie Curie received one more Noble Prize for discovering new chemical elements. During her life, Marie studied the issues related to radiation and radiology, isolating radioactive isotopes, neoplasm treatment, as well as doing more practical research on providing X-Ray to European hospitals. She established her organization known as the Curie Institutions, which still remain among the leading medical research centers. Marie Curie is the only person who received a Noble Prize in two different sciences. She died at the age of 66 in a hospital in France, after complications caused by her exposure to radiation during the experiments.
