Lincoln turned out to be very successful in politics and social influence, so he became a leader of Whig Party and in the 1940s he was appointed a member of Congress of Illinois. In the 1850s, he became number one of the Republican Party and in 1860 he was elected the 16th President of the United States of America.

He promoted the ideas of nationalism, unity, democracy, liberty and equal rights of all people. In the times of the American Civil War Lincoln tried to keep the country in a proper social and economic condition, as well as used the situation to promote slavery abolishment ideas. In 1865 he initiated and managed his re-election campaign but in April 1865 he was assassinated by an actor, John Booth, at the age of 56.
