How old is Viswanathan Anand?

Viswanathan Anand is an Indian chess grandmaster and former World Champion, widely regarded as one of the greatest chess players of his generation. He was born in 1969 in a town in Southern India, where his mother first taught him to play chess. Anand pursued higher education in Chennai while developing his skills in competitive chess, beginning his professional career in the 1980s.

At just nineteen, he became India’s first chess grandmaster. Throughout the 1990s, he competed in numerous international tournaments, and in 2000 he became the first Asian player to win the FIDE World Championship. Anand reached the world No. 1 ranking in 2007 and successfully defended his title multiple times against top competitors, including Vladimir Kramnik, Veselin Topalov, and Boris Gelfand. In 2013, he passed the title to Magnus Carlsen.
