He was born Sean Paul Francis Henriques in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1973. Having spent his early years in a traditional Catholic family, he began his professional journey in 1996 by releasing the single “Baby Girl”. It became very popular in Jamaica. In 1997, Sean relocated to the US to meet influential artists such as Big Daddy Kane, Aaliyah, and Snoop Dogg.

In 2000 Sean Paul released his first solo album and went on to tour extensively and perform live.
